FTO

FTO: Your Field Training Officer is tasked with showing you the ropes and making sure you can swing from them. At the beginning of your “Field Training” you should expect your FTO to be doing a lot of showing, explaining, directing, teaching and leading by example. The longer you've been in "Field Training" the more you should be doing the job without prompting from your FTO. Your FTO will also be observing, evaluating and documenting how well or not you learn and perform the duties of a Jail Guard.

Your FTO is not your friend. Be friendly but always professional toward your FTO. All FTO's expect you to become Mini Me's of them. They expect you to perform everything like they do. If you aren't capable of becoming Mini Me's they will work to get you flushed into another line of work. It's not personal.

While many of our FTOs sincerely want to teach you to be the best Jail Guard you’re capable of being. A few are also living out their fantasy of being Gunnery Sergeant Hartman with you playing the role of Private Pyle of Full Metal Jacket fame. Because none of them will actually look or sound like Gunnery Sergeant Hartman you’ll have to assume you’ve gotten him/her for the next couple weeks.
There is nothing you can do but try your damnedest to please this psychopath.
